SUPER BOWL 2012

• Barry Leonard is all set to call Cornell's game on Friday at St. Bonaventure. Tune into Cornell Athletics Redcast or Hits 103 Ithaca (free of charge) for audio of the game. The pre-game show starts 30 minutes before tip-off. As usual, Leonard will interview Head Coach Bill Courtney before the game and obtain a scouting report from one of Cornell's assistant coaches. An interview with Chris Wroblewski is also scheduled before tip off. At halftime, there may be an interview with Greg Gary, an administrator in Cornell's financial aid office who played with Hall of Famer Bob Lanier at St. Bonaventure. Gary was a 1971 draft pick of the Golden State Warriors.

• J.P. Butler, the St. Bonaventure beat writer of the Oleans Times Herald previews the Cornell at Bonaventure game in a podcast.

• Brian Delaney of ESPN 1160 Radio provides a report from Cornell's practices via Twitter.

• Cornell assistant coach Mike Blaine is participating in the CollegeInsider.com Shots from the Heart Tournament. The event is designed to help "create more awareness for the growing problem of Heart Disease and to raise money to benefit the Skip Prosser Foundation. CollegeInsider.com and the Skip Prosser Foundation are working with the American Heart Association, which will be a beneficiary of the Skip Prosser Foundation, to further promote "Shots from the Heart" and the educational aspects of heart disease. ...There will be two 64-coach fields (one for head coaches and one for assistant coaches). Participating coaches will compete in a free throw shooting contest."

• In alumni news, on November 9 in Denmark's premier league, Adam Wire (Cornell '11) and Aaron Osgood ('11) posted monster performances for their Vaerlose club in a 74-72 defeat to Aabyohj. Wire shot 8/10 from the floor and posted 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals to got along with 2 assists. Osgood finished with 9 points and 12 rebounds.
  

• The Massachusetts Daily Collegian writes, "After being blown out by Dayton on its home floor in the first round of last year’s Atlantic 10 tournament, Massachusetts men’s basketball coach Derek Kellogg knew he needed to make a change. Kellogg did just that and dismissed the dribble-drive offense in favor of a fast-paced, motion offense which will help get the most out of his athletic roster... He acknowledged that former UMass coach and current Kentucky coach John Calipari, Miami’s Jim Larranaga and Cornell’s Bill Courtney helped him through the process."

• The Express Times of Easton, Pa. interviews a former Lafayette player that transferred to Boston College to play for Steve Donahue. The Times writes, "Donahue, who led Cornell to the Sweet 16 in 2010, directed Boston College to a 21-13 record last season including a 9-7 mark in the ACC."

• Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of November 10 is No. 18 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or Jeff Sagarin rankings are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 120 in the nation, while the USA Today Sagarin rankings have Cornell at No. 134. Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.
