Miller Named Ivy League Basketball co-Rookie of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller has been named the Ivy League co-Rookie of the Week award it was announced today by the league office. His first varsity appearance was enough to catch the eye of the league after a solid opening effort at St. Bonaventure.

Miller connected on all three of his field goals, including a 3-pointer, and added a team-high four rebounds in Cornell's 79-58 loss to the Bonnies on Friday evening. He added a blocked shot and a steal.

The 6-7 forward shared the award with Dartmouth's Jvonte Brooks.

Miller and the Big Red open its home schedule tonight against Binghamton at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall. You can watch the RedCast feed at http://www.CornellBigRed.com/showcase.

• B.U.'s Daily Free Press writes about the Terriers' 0-2 start to the season. The Press writes, "With their next game not scheduled until Sunday at Cornell University, the Terriers will get some much-needed rest and time to get things together before trying again to get their first win of the season and of Jones’ tenure at BU. 'We’ve just got to not so much focus on Cornell. I think it’s more about us. We have to put more time into us and getting better,' [head coach Joe] Jones said. 'I think just playing together, having a week of practice, getting better in practice every day, stressing the way we want to play offensively, continuing to get better defensively, continuing to take care of the basketball and rebounding the ball – those are things we have to keep working at.'"

• Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of November 15 is No. 177 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or Jeff Sagarin rankings are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 140 in the nation, while the USA Today Sagarin rankings have Cornell at No. 169. Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.
