ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman Shonn Miller has been named the 2012 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and senior Chris Wroblewski, the 2009 conference rookie of the year, closed his career with a first-team all-league nod when the All-Ivy League teams were announced on Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, junior Johnathan Gray was named honorable mention All-Ivy.

The All-Ivy League team is selected by a vote of the conference's eight head coaches.

"I'm excited for Shonn, Chris and Johnathan for being recognized for their performances this season," said Bill Courtney, the Robert E. Gallagher '44 Head Coach of Cornell Basketball. "For Shonn, he had a good rookie season and I expect this will provide him even more motivation to work on his game during the offseason. Chris was our steady leader, and his play in conference games made him more than deserving of being named first-team all-conference. Johnathan really emerged in Ivy play as one of the conference's elite athletes and ranked among the conference scorers. His story is one of perseverance and dedication, and we're fortunate to have both him and Shonn back next year as we continue our climb up the Ivy League standings."

Miller, who becomes the seventh Cornellian to take home Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors and the third in the last seven years, established new Cornell freshman records for rebounds (170) and blocked shots (46) while taking home the conference's Rookie of the Week honor five times. He also ranked among the top 10 freshman scorers in school history with 250 points. The 6-7 freshman ranked eighth in the Ivy League in rebounding and steals and was second in blocks.

Miller ended the season averaging 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while starting in 21 of the team's 28 contests. He shot 44 percent from the floor, including 51 percent from inside the 3-point arc. Miller had three double-doubles, five double digit rebounding games and nine contests in double figure scoring.

Wroblewski, a three-time All-Ivy selection and two-time Capital One Academic All-American, graduates as the school's all-time career leader in assists (482) and a 1,000-point scorer (1,202 points - 13th all-time). A two-year captain, Wroblewski is a three-year starter who played on a pair of Ivy League championship teams, including the 2009-10 squad that advanced to the Sweet 16.

Wroblewski ended his career ranked fourth in career 3-point field goals made (189), fifth in 3-point percentage (.414), ninth in free-throw percentage (.823), ninth in steals (139) and 10th in free throws made (279). His 119 games played ranked second all-time among Cornellians, and his 3,594 minutes played sits third.

As a senior, Wroblewski led the team in scoring (11.5 ppg.) and was third in the Ivy League in assists (5.3 apg.) and second in steals (1.6 spg.). He was twice been named Ivy League Player of the Week during his career, including once as a senior. Wroblewski became just the second player in Cornell history to surpass 1,000 points, 400 assists, 300 rebounds and 100 steals, joining All-American and Ivy Player of the Year Louis Dale, his former backcourt mate.

Gray was the conference's sixth-leading scorer in Ivy League games (12.3 ppg.) and for the season posted 8.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game. He started 17 of the team's 28 games. Gray, a former walk-on, hit for double figures 12 times with two 20-point games, including a career-high 29 points in a win over Yale. He also scored 20 points in a victory over Dartmouth. He recorded 18 points against Patriot League regular season champion Bucknell and had 14 points against Ivy champion Harvard.

The Big Red improved on its 2010-11 win totals both overall and in conference play this past season, ending the year 12-16 (7-7 Ivy League) in the second year under Courtney. Cornell will return three starters and 10 letter winners next season.

The Ivy League Office named Cornell's Chris Wroblewski the Player of the Week and placed Jon Gray on the Honor Roll. Cornell senior guard Chris Wroblewski (Highland Park, Ill.) was simply dominant in a pair of wins over Yale and Brown, averaging 16.5 points, 9.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while turning the ball over just once all weekend in 76 minutes. Wroblewski shot 50 percent from the floor, 63 percent from three-point range, connected on all four free throw attempts, and even added a block. In the Big Red’s 85-84 overtime win over Yale, he fell just two rebounds shy of Cornell’s first-ever triple double, ending the night with 18 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals without a turnover in 42 minutes. In the final three minutes of regulation, Wroblewski hit a pair of jumpers, assisted on a huge three-point basket and had three rebounds, including an offensive tap-out that led to a possession that Cornell scored on. In overtime, Wroblewski had an offensive rebound and dished off to an open shooter for a three-pointer to make it a two-possession game, and after Yale cut the deficit to one, hit a fall-away baseline jumper over Yale’s 6-10 Greg Mangano to put Cornell up 84-81 with 27 seconds to play. The following night against Brown he added 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and one turnover in the 72-63 victory. Wroblewski Named Ivy League Player of the Week

Cornell's Shonn Miller was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week by the Ivy League Office. The League's press release notes:

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller (Euclid, Ohio) was outstanding in helping the Big Red to a road split over the weekend, averaging 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. Miller posted his second career double-double in the win over Dartmouth, giving Cornell its first road win of the year. He made 7-of-11 shots from the floor for a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, adding a block and a steal. Miller also played an active 19 minutes in the loss at No. 23 Harvard, scoring nine points, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, blocking two shots and collecting two steals.

Miller Captures Another Ivy Rookie of the Week Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after helping the Big Red to a road split in conference action. Cornell rookies have earned five weekly honors so far during the 2011-12 campaign.

Miller averaged 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in two contests while shooting 56 percent from the field. The 6-8 freshman was instrumental in the Big Red's first road victory of the season, a 68-59 triumph at Dartmouth, with his third career double-double. Millerposted 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a block and a steal. The school's freshman record holder in blocked shots added to his totals with two swats to go along with nine points, eight rebounds and two steals in a 71-60 loss at No. 23 Harvard on Friday evening. He now has a Big Red rookie record 36 blocks so far this season.

Miller and the Big Red return to action on Friday, Feb. 10 when it meets Yale at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena.

The Ivy League Office has named Shonn Miller the Rookie of the Week.

The Ivy League Office notes with respect to Miller:

Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller (Euclid, Ohio) was fantastic in his first Ivy League weekend, averaging 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 57 percent from the floor for the Big Red in two starts. In the victory over defending Ivy co-champion Princeton, Miller scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots while also dishing out an assist and stealing a pass. He answered that with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks against Penn, hitting 8-of-13 shots from the floor.

Miller Named Ivy Rookie of the Week For Fourth Time

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman men's basketball player Shonn Miller has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after putting together a pair of outstanding efforts against Princeton and Penn in his first conference weekend. The 6-8 forward earned the weekly award each of the season's first three weeks.

Miller averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals in games against perennial Ivy League contenders Princeton and Penn. He shot .565 from the floor and didn't commit a turnover in 59 minutes of action.

Miller played a key role in Cornell's league-opening win over defending Ivy League champion Princeton, recoding 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots in the 67-59 victory over the Tigers. He came back the following night with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in a loss to Penn for his second career double-double. It was also his fourth career contest with double figures in rebounding.

Miller and the Big Red will visit Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Levien Gymnasium.

Cornell's Galal Cancer is the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week. The Ivy League Office writes this week in part:

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Holiday hoops continues for Ivy League men’s basketball this week with nine games on the Christmas week schedule.

Six Ivy teams are in action with Dartmouth embarking on a three-game, five-day road trip through the Empire State. Cornell has back-to-back games against Big Ten Conference foes, playing at Illinois Monday night and at Penn State Wednesday night. Brown, Harvard and Penn each return to the hardwood at home later this week after taking their respective exam breaks. Princeton looks to move above .500 for the first time this season in its final pre-Christmas game at Siena on Thursday.

CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Cornell freshman forward Galal Cancer (Albany, N.Y.) put together quite a stat line in the Big Red’s 85-82 overtime victory over Albany. The freshman, playing against his hometown school, posted 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot in 30 minutes off the bench for Cornell. Cancer closed strong with four points, two rebounds, two assists and a block in the final four minutes of regulation as Cornell erased a 10-point, second-half deficit. The seven assists and four steals were both career highs.

Cancer Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman Galal Cancer has been named the Ivy League co-Rookie of the Week after his efforts in helping the Big Red to an overtime victory over Albany last week. The honor is the first weekly award for Cancer and the fourth for a Big Red freshman. Classmate Shonn Miller has collected the award three times.

Cancer shares the award with Dartmouth's John Golden.

Cancer scored 11 points, dished seven assists, snatched five rebounds and picked up four steals in an 85-82 overtime victory over the Great Danes. He made 5-of-10 field goals while collecting career highs in assists and steals. He was also just two points off his career scoring high. Cancer had four points, two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in the final minute of regulation for the Big Red, who overcame a 10-point deficit with nine minutes to play to force an extra session.

Cancer and the Big Red return to action tonight at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) when it meets No. 19 Illinois at Assembly Hall in Champaign, Ill. The game will be televised by ESPN3.com.

With no games scheduled last week, Cornell was not eligible for the Ivy League's weekly awards. Below is a list of the weekly winners for the 2011-2012 season and an excerpt from this week's release from the Ivy League Office.

Ivy League Office, PRINCETON, N.J. -- The slate is slight for Ivy League men’s basketball with only six games on the schedule this week.

Only Dartmouth and Cornell enjoy games at home, both on Saturday, with the Big Green welcoming Elon and the Big Red hosting Albany. Princeton is the only Ivy team with two games this week, first making the short trip south to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on Rider. The Tigers head north over the weekend to take on Northeastern in their fourth of seven-straight games away from home.

"Inside Ivy League Basketball" returns for its third episode on Thursday, Dec. 15. ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the third straight week to begin his career, again sharing the award after two strong efforts for the Big Red men's basketball team.

Miller, who leads Cornell is rebounding and blocked shots and sits third on the team in scoring, shared the honor with Columbia's Alex Rosenberg. Miller averaged 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two games for the Big Red, including earning his first career starts. He had eight points, a career-best 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals against an athletic Delaware frontcourt. He answered that performance with nine points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal against American.

Miller and the Big Red close out the first semester when they play host to Lehigh on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena in Bartels Hall.

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Thanksgiving week is another busy seven days for Ivy League men’s basketball with 22 games on the slate with Ivy teams playing from Alaska to the Bahamas.

Five League squads are competing in early season tournaments with Dartmouth heading west to 49th state for its first-ever appearance in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska while Harvard heading to Paradise, actually Paradise Island in the Bahamas for the first-ever Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Brown finishes off its first-ever NIT Season Tip-Off appearance with two games on George Mason's home court, Princeton plays a trio of games at Bucknell in the TicketCity Legends and Penn hosts Pittsburgh and James Madison at The Palestra in the final games of the Philly Hoop Group Classic.

He scored eight points and had two rebounds and a steal at Buffalo, then responded with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in a victory over defending America East champion Boston University. Miller Repeats As Ivy Co-Rookie of the Week In Men's Hoops

ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive week to open the season, Big Red freshman forward Shonn Miller has been named the Ivy League co-Rookie of the Week in men's basketball it was announced by the conference office. Miller helped Cornell to a 2-1 record with his efforts off the bench.

Miller averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.7 steals in just 23.3 minutes per game. He shot 46 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free-throw line. He reached double figures in two of the three contests. He shares the award with Dartmouth's Gabas Maldunas.

The freshman opened the week with career highs of 19 points and eight rebounds to go along with a block and a steal in a win over Binghamton. After scoring eight points and grabbing two rebounds against a talented Buffalo frontcourt, he scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots to help Cornell knock off regining America East champion and preseason favorite Boston University.

Miller and the Big Red return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they face Delaware at 7 p.m.

Cornell freshman forward Shonn Miller (Euclid, Ohio) connected on all three of his field goals, including a three-pointer, and added a team-high four rebounds in the Big Red’s season-opening loss at St. Bonaventure. In his first collegiate contest, Miller added a block and a steal in 20 minutes to go along with his seven points.
