2012 UK commit and Highlands High School quarterback Patrick Towles was named the 2011 Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year Thursday. Towels threw for 3,637 yards and 41 touchdowns through the regular season and four playoff games, leading the undefeated Bluebirds to this weekend's 4A state championship game against Franklin-Simpson. Towels is also the grandson of Baseball Hall of Famer and retired U.S. Senator Jim Bunning.
