Below, some afternoon news and notes...- Boston Magazine writes, "Harvard Lucks Into Ivy League Title, NCAA Tournament. Harvard had several close calls [in reaching the NCAA Tournament], including two against dreadful Columbia. In their final game of the season against Cornell — a must win — they pulled it out by just four points. Harvard was supposed to be a Top 25 team playing head and shoulders above their Ancient Eight competition, but that seemed not to be the case. In other words, the Crimson are hardly peaking as tournament time rolls around... In any case, don’t look for the Crimson to duplicate Cornell’s miracle run to the Sweet 16 in 2010. They should just be feeling grateful to have made the tournament at all."

- ESPN's Nets Are Scorching writes, "Springfield Armor center Jeff Foote became the second Armor big man to receive a coveted Gatorade Call-Up this season, as he signed with the New Orleans Hornets Friday morning. Foote was not in action in Springfield’s 106-101 loss Thursday night to the Canton. The former Cornell-star averaged 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, a 1.1 blocks per game this season for Springfield. He was also one of three Armor players named as an All-Star. Foote spent training camp wit the Portland Trailblazers earlier this season... Foote, who started 28 of 29 games this season for the Armor, is leaving quite a whole in the Armor frontline."
- Hornets247.com writes, "After seeing what an Ivy-Leaguer did for the Knicks, the New Orleans Hornets decided to sign former Cornell forward, Jeff Foote, to a 10-day contract. According to the excellent Jim Eichenhofer of Big Easy Buzz Blog (which you should be reading), Foote will be first Cornell product in NBA since 1950-51, when Ed Peterson graced the NBA with his presence. Foote, a Cornell University product, has appeared in 29 regular season games with the Springfield Armor in the NBA Developmental League this season, starting in 28 of the 29 contests. He averaged 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 32.9 minutes of play with the Armor. The 7’0” center will like make his NBA debut for the Hornets, originally going undrafted and signing with the Springfield Armor in November 2011. At Cornell, Foote won back-to-back Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year awards his junior and senior seasons. He helped lead Cornell to the Sweet 16 his senior season, which he averaged 12.3 points, and led the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.633) and rebounding (8.1). Foote is expected to see the minutes the Solomon Jones previously occupied."
- ESPN 1420 writes, "The New Orleans Hornets need to sign D-Leaguers to 10-day contracts continued today when they inked Center Jeff Foote to a deal. With all of the injuries to the Hornets frontcourt (Emeka Okafor, Carl Landry, Jason Smith), Foote will have an opportunity to show the big leagues what he can do. Foote played 4 years of college ball at Cornell. He led the Big Red to a rare Sweet 16 appearance two seasons ago. Once he takes the court for New Orleans, he’ll be the first Cornell alum to play in an NBA game in over 60 years. For the last season and a half, Foote has played for the Springfield Armor of the NBA Developmental League (D-league). Jeff’s numbers this year with the Armor were good as he averaged 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 32.9 minutes of play. The 7-footer could make his NBA debut tonight as the Hornets battle the Nuggets in Denver. Tip-off is set for at 8:00."
