Chattanooga is in the Southern Conference which includes such teams as Davidson, Furman, Appalachian St., and Western Carolina. The Mocs are off to a slow start with a 3-7 record, however, two of the loses were to IU and Butler…and two other loses were in OT’s. Chattanooga is a mid-major and starts 4 seniors along with a junior. Omar Wattad, a preseason 1st team Southern Conference player, leads the Mocs in scoring along with Ricky Taylor.
Taylor and Early are the leading perimeter shooters hitting 46.2% and 45.8% respectfully….very effective long range shooting. Early and Zlovaric lead the team in rebounds while Keegan Bell leads the Mocs in assists with 7.1 PG.
Although, the Mocs bring solid experience into Rupp arena, they simply don’t have the talent to compete with UK.
Kentucky has had a week to reflect on their very disappointing loss to IU. The Cats have had a lot to work on in practices….especially guarding the perimeter. The Cats simply can’t allow teams like NC and IU shoot light out from the perimeter. In addition, UK must understand that they must play with great energy in every single game for 40 minutes….simply showing up will not be tolerated!
As disappointing as the loss to IU is…..it hopefully will turn out to be a very important learning lesson. Cal has said over and over that having the most talent doesn’t always result in a win…..instead, it’s great team effort…. executing the offense and defense effectively…..playing unselfishly…..making good decisions…..making FT’s…..and again…..playing hard for 40 minutes! Obviously, the young Cats were shell shocked and let the rabid IU crowd affect their play, especially in the 1st half. I doubt that UK will face another fan base as hostile as the IU fan base. UK must learn how to play on the road ASAP!
UK did play better in the 2nd half in Bloomington with Kidd-Gilchrist playing like a warrior throughout the game. Other Cats need to play with the same great effort!
For some unknown reason, Jones was missing in action throughout the game….his lack of effort on the floor was beyond disappointing and shocking. Jones is a great talent and UK needs him to be a warrior in the paint…..hopefully, we see a different Jones the rest of the year. If Jones puts on other disappearing acts this season…. the Cats will struggle against talented frontlines.
I see an easy UK win over Chattanooga by at least 25 points. GO CATS!
