Game Notes

The American University men's basketball team will head to Cornell on Sunday, November 27 where they will look for their fourth consecutive win and second victory over an Ivy League opponent this season. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m. from Newman Arena.

American (3-2) is led by senior Charles Hinkle, who is currently ranked third in the country and first in the Patriot League with 24.8 ppg. He has scored at least 20 points in every game this season, including a career-high 31 against Quinnipiac on Tuesday to help the Eagles defeat the Bobcats, 74-73.

Hinkle hit a three in the final 41.1 seconds of the game to put American on top, 73-72, and help the Eagles hold off a Quinnipiac comeback. The senior was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 15-of- 19 from the foul line, also posting four rebounds and two steals.

Tony Wroblicky led the Eagles with six boards in Tuesday's game, also adding six points and two blocks. American was 60.0 percent from beyond the arc and 37.0 percent from the field. The team was also 34-of-48 from the free throw line, shooting 70.8 percent.

The team's 34 made free throws in the game placed them ninth all-time at American, tying a total most recently achieved against East Carolina on January 16, 1996. The team's 48 free throw attempts tied them for sixth all-time in school history. Hinkle was 15-of-19 from the line in the game. His 15 made free throws and 19 attempts are both good for fourth all-time at American.

Quinnipiac (2-2) opened the game on a 7-0 run before John Schoof hit a three to put the Eagles on the board. The Bobcats led by as many as eight after a dunk by Nate Gause, 26-18, with 5:45 remaining in the first half. A pair of free throws by Simon McCormack with 3:06 to play gave American their first lead of the game, before Quinnipiac went on a 9-2 run to end the half, 37-31.

Quinnipiac was able to tie it at 73 with Johnson going 1-for-2 from the line. Johnson fouled Blake Jolivette with 7.9 seconds on the clock and the junior was able to go 1-for-2 from the line to give the Eagles the 74-73 lead. The Bobcats looked to push it down the court as the clock was winding down, but Schoof was able to come up with a steal under the net as time expired for American's third straight win.

This is the first-ever meeting between American and the Cornell Big Red. American holds a 1-0 record against Ivy League opponents this season after defeating Columbia, 66-58, on November 19.
