Radford has a new coach in Mike Jones who was an assistant coach at Georgia and VCU. Coach Jones takes over a Radford team that had a horrible 5-24 record last season and was near the bottom in offense among division 1 teams. Radford has been starting and playing a very small lineup in some games, but I look for 6’9” Tolga Cerrah and 6’9” Lukas Winegarner, both sophomores, to see a fair number of minutes against UK’s front line. 6’8” Johnathan Edwards leads the team in rebounds….R.J. Price leads in assists….and Jareal Smith leads in steals. Unfortunately, there is no sugar coating it….Radford is simply a very weak team and is terribly outmatched by UK’s huge talent advantage.

UK will have been happy to get back home to Rupp arena after a long road trip. The OD game where a senior laden team played a hard nose zone defense and really gave the Cats a tough time in a very physical game should have served as a great lesson for these young Cats…..they now know what it’s going to be like to go up against tough zone defenses, which they will likely face often this season. Teams will often milk the clock….play zone…and get physical in the paint.

The key for the Cats is to continue to improve in every facet of the game….and they definitely need to learn how to be effective against zone defenses. Also, hopefully, UK practices on free throw shooting!

The Radford game should give all the UK players an opportunity to get minutes. I see a total blowout win for the Cats…40 point win or more depending on when Cal goes deep in his bench. GO CATS!
