- Some Cornell basketball alumni following graduation have pursued pro careers. In fact, Cornell has more alumni playing professionally than any of the other Ivy League school. But other alumni of the program have used their Cornell degree and pursued other careers away from basketball with recent alums venturing down professional paths in medicine, sciences, law, politics and on Wall Street and the business world. Above, just a few of the recent Cornell basketball alums.
- Committed 2012 recruit, Nolan Cressler (Plum HS) Plum, PA, 6-4, G, will use his NCAA permitted official visit this weekend an attend Cornell's homecoming festivities. Cornell will also have several elite recruiting targets in the classes of 2012 and 2013 on campus.
- Speaking of recruiting, here are some of the rankings Cornell's coaches get to throw around to prospective recruits. First, with the recently released U.S. News & World Report 2012 Best Colleges issue, Cornell is once again the only Ivy League school ranked in the top 10 for both undergraduate business (No. 9) and engineering (No. 9) programs. Notably, competitiors Harvard, Princeton and Yale did not appear on either ranking. Cornell was also ranked No. 15 overall in the issue (No. 9 in a separate ranking by high school guidance counselors), and No. 10 in terms of best financial value. And in arguably the most important category, Cornell was ranked No. 6 in overall academic reputation outscoring schools such as University of Chicago, Penn, Duke and Northwestern. Cornell also scored very high marks in the Newsweek 2011-2012 rankings, placing itself among the top universities in the country for "future CEOs" (No. 11), "best party schools" (No. 13 ), "best food" (No. 11), and "happiest schools" (No. 16). The Times of Higher Education ranked Cornell No. 14 in the world in its 2010-2011 rankings, meanwhile in the 2011 world university rankings released by the Center for World-Class Universities, Cornell was placed No. 13.
- NBC Sports mentions former Cornell head coach, Scott Thompson, a victim of a fraudulent investment scheme designed by David Salinas, a Houston financial adviser. Thompson coached at Cornell between 1996 and 2000.
- A walk-on at Cal scored a perfect SAT score according to ESPN.com. The article quoted Cornell's Jon Jaques ('10) as responding, "I'd say Ivy League players would be very impressed. Guessing only a handful of current players in the league scored that high."
- The Pittsburgh Post Gazette notes, "Not one WPIAL or City League basketball player in the class of 2011 signed with a Division I college, and that might have been the first time that has happened. But you will need two hands to count the number of Division I signees in the class of 2012. Three seniors already have made verbal commitments to Division I programs, and a few more have scholarship offers. The three players who have decided on colleges already are Highlands guard Micah Mason (Drake), Lincoln Park center Devontae Watson (Temple) and Plum guard Nolan Cressler (Cornell)."
- The Jamesville Gazette of Wisconsin notes that Army received a verbal commitment from Tanner Plomb (East Troy HS) East Troy WI, 6-8, F. “I think the (basketball) program is on the rise,” Plomb said. “They got a new coach [Zach Spiker] three years ago that was an assistant at Cornell, and he has got the program headed in the right direction.”
- Adam Wire ('11) and Aaron Osgood ('11), teammates on the Vaerlose club in Denmark have updated their blog, Danish Duo.
- Below, a look back at highlights from Cornell's 2010-2011 home opening 75-61 victory over Delaware on November 17, 2010. Prior to the game, Cornell raised its 2010 Sweet Sixteen banner along with its 2010 Ivy League Champions banner, the third in a row for Cornell.
