Basketball season is more than two months away, but Alle-Kiski fans can look forward to watching a pair of Division I recruits play.

Plum's Nolan Cressler verbally committed to Cornell last week, joining another local standout, Highlands' Micah Mason, a Drake recruit.

The Valley hasn't had two Division I recruits heading into a season since 2004, when Freeport's Dave Bauman committed to Albany and Plum's Mike McKee picked Kent State.

Cressler narrowed his list of five offers to Cornell and Yale.

"Cornell is the place I will be the happiest," said Cressler, who averaged 25.5 points per game last season.

Mason was the WPIAL's top scorer, at 33.3 points. He is awaiting medical clearance to return to competitive basketball. He was diagnosed with POTS Syndrome and spinal cord meningeal compression, which has caused varying symptoms, such as irregular heartbeat, dizziness and digestive problems.
