Who: Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Kentucky Wildcats
Where: Commonwealth Stadium(Lexington, KY)
When: September 10, 2011(09/10/11)

The Wildcats came out with a ugly win last Thursday against Western Kentucky. To kick off the 2011 shome schedule for UK, the Chippewas(still have no clue what a Chippewa is) of Central Michigan who is looking for their first 2-0 start since the 2002 season.

Players of interest:

UK:
  1. Winston Guy- The stud senior safety/linebacker had the best performance on the field last Thursday against WKU. Guy was all over the place tallying 4 solo, 6 assists for 10 total tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss. If that's not impressive enough, Guy also picked off 2 passes.
  2. Danny Trevathan- Danny T. has reached double digit tackles in each of his last 10 games.
  3. Morgan Newton- After an abyssmal performance against WKU, the junior QB looks to improve those numbers. Newton seemed to possibly catch his stride in the fourth quarter last week leading the offense to a late TD to solidify the game.
  4. Ryan Tydlacka- Last week was a punting showdown against WKU. Tydlacka constantly pinned WKU back deep in their own territory with absolutely beautiful punts. His most impressive though, was a 59 yard bomb.

CMU:

  1. Ryan Radcliff- The Chippewas QB needs just 59 yards and 15 passing attempts to move into eighth All-Time on CMU's respective lists. Also, he needs only one pass TD to move into ninth All-Time on CMU's passing TD list.
  2. Cody Wilson- The stud receiver needs 1 reception to move into 10th on CMU’s career receptions list. Wilson, has caught a pass in 20 consecutive games dating back to the 2009 season.
  3. Tim Phillips- The sophomore running back will play in his home state for the first time since leading Louisville Trinity High School to its fourth consecutive state championship in 2008. Phillips ran for 1,535 yards and 25 touchdowns during the 2008 state title season. He will line up across from three former high school teammates: Kentucky punter Ryan Tydlacka, tailback Derek Bishop and tight end Nick Melillo.

Areas of Interest:

  1. Kentucky's wide receivers were terrible, at best, last week. Joker Phillips, has promised change with different players getting looks to try and find something useful out wide. Aaron Boyd, E.J. Fields, and Demarco Robinson have all been mentioned to be getting plenty of playing time against CMU. Bottom line here is, we NEED to find something of use out wide. The performance last week, was one of the worst performances of WR's that I have ever seen in all levls of football. Will the WR's play improve?
  2. Morgan Newton needs to step up to the plate as UK's starting QB. Throwing THREE interceptions against a Sun Belt team, is just not acceptable. Granted, he had ZERO help with our receivers dropping some perfect passes, his decision making needs to improve vastly. In the 4th quarter last week, he seemed to have grown up while leading UK to a TD to solidify the win on top of a great 58 yard run and a 31 yard TD pass to La'Rod King. Will Morgan Newton improve on his fourth quarter performance?
  3. Defensive coordinator Rick Minter, has ties with CMU's offensive coordinator. Minter, should have a great defensive game plan lined up to defend against the CMU offense. Will UK's defense build on top of a great showing agaisnt WKU?
  4. Raymond Sanders and Josh Clemons split carries last week, with true freshman Clemons having the best showing and the only rushing TD of the game. Will Clemons continue to emerge as UK's RB?
  5. UK's offensive line played terrible against WKU. This is partly due to decreased practice time within the group and injuries within the group. One thing is for sure though, the OL needs to improve their play. This should be a strength on this team with all the experience between them. They need to improve their get off on the snap, staying on their blocking assigments, getting their hands on the defender, hip leverage, etc. Will UK's offensive line look better against CMU?

UK currently holds a 5-0 record over CMU all-time. The teams last meeting was in 2006 resulting in a close 38-36 victory for the Wildcats.

Look for the Wildcats to come out and look like a completely different team following a week full of hard practices and criticizism from the coaches, fans, and media alike. The Wildcats, has a chip on their shoulder and are looking to prove themselves after an abyssmal week 1 to start the season.

BleedBlue7's prediction:
Kentucky 37 CMU 14

GO BIG BLUE!
