Class of 2012 Recruiting News

There were four commitments in the Ivy League over the last week. And in each case, the new recruits had solid mid major offers, some with high majors. Harvard picked up commitments this week from Siyani Chambers (Hopkins HS) Minneapolis, MN 5-1, G and Mike Hall (Woodward Academy) Norcross, GA, 6-10, F. They join Evan Cummins (Northfield Mount Hermon School) Northfield, MA, 6-8, F in Harvard's 2012 class. Chambers selected Harvard over his two other finalists, Cal Davis and UCSB, cancelling scheduled official visits to both schools. Hall chose Harvard over Penn and George Mason after visiting all three schools officially. Cummins chose Harvard over Holy Cross and Boston University. Meanwhile, Penn picked up a commitment from Tony Hicks (St. Rita HS) Chicago, IL, 6-2, G. Hicks chose Penn over Ohio University and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Penn also picked up a commitment from Darian Nelson Henry (Lake Washington HS) Kirland, WA, 6-10, C. Nelson Henry chose Penn over Washington State and Boise State. They join Jamal Lewis (Sidwell Friends School) Washington, DC, 6-0, G in Penn's 2012 class, who picked the Quakers over VCU and George Washington.

Speaking of Penn and Lewis, the guard tweeted last night that UConn contacted him and asked him to reopen his recruitment. While the request may be true, there is no knowing just how many other guards UConn contacted. Some schools have been known to contact more than a dozen players in a single evening. So panic mode should not set in quite so quickly for Penn fans. Odds are the Huskies are looking at quite a few guards.

Cedric Kuakumensah (St. Andews School) Barrington, RI, 6-7 is scheduled to visit Brown this weekend. Per numerous sources, the lanky defensive-minded forward will decide between Penn and Brown following his visit. Speaking of the Brown Bears, the folks in Providence are also involved with Brian Pegg (Oldsmar Christian) Oldsmar, FL, 6-5, G, Texas native, Nick Victor (Winchendon School) Wichendon, MA, 6-5, F, as well as Spike Albrecht (Northfield Mt. Hermon School) Northfield, MA, 5-11, G (younger brother of Brown guard, Stephen Albrecht).

NYCHoopsnet.com reports that Lucas Woodhouse (Harborfields HS) Greenlawn, NY, 6-1, G committed to Longwood. In addition to the offer from Longwood, Woodhouse said he held interest from Navy, Cornell, Columbia, and Stony Brook .

In other news, the Asheville Citizen Times reports that Princeton offered Will Weeks (Christ School) Arden, NC, 6-6, F.

NorthpoleHoops.com reports Hamid Nessek (ACMT) Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, 6-o, G, has interest from Yale, Harvard and William and Mary.

Mike LaTulip (Prospect HS) Mt. Prospect, IL, 6-0, G, has an offer from South Dakota State and is claiming interest from Penn and Princeton per Rivals.com.

Nate McGinley (Centaurus HS) Lafayette, CO, 6-3, G, told Colorado Prep Report, "No one has made an offer yet but the schools recruiting me are Idaho State, Portland State, Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, American University, Air Force, West Point, and Yale University."

Tomas Sjoberg (St. Thomas Academy) Mendota Heights, MN, 6-5, G told Minnesota Preps that he visited Cornell over the summer and "loved" his trip. The wing has no Division I offers and is scheduling visits to several Division II programs.
