Cornell head coach Bill Courtney is in his second season at Cornell (21-33, .389) ... Courtney became the fifth Robert E. Gallagher '44 Coach of Men's Basketball at Cornell on April 23, 2010.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's basketball team will finish the 2011-12 season by celebrating its seniors, attempting to finish .500 or better in Ivy play and affecting the race for the Ivy League title this weekend. Cornell will meet Dartmouth on Friday, March 2 and first-place Harvard on Saturday, March 3. Both contests will tip at 7 p.m. with Saturday's contest being televised on ESPN3. Barry Leonard will provide the call on HITS 103.3 FM and video of Friday's game will be available on RedCast.

The Big Red split last weekend's road trip, knocking off Brown 69-63 in providence on Friday before falling on Yale's Senior Day, 71-40. In the process, Cornell surpassed last year's win total overall and matched its number of Ivy wins with two contests remaining. The Big Red is now 7-6 in its last 13 games. It will have an opportunity to factor itself into the race for the Ivy League title, as it will play Harvard on Saturday after honoring the team's four seniors. The Crimson enter the weekend a half-game ahead of Penn. The two teams are tied in the loss column. Entering the weekend, anything from a solo champion to a four-team playoff is still possible.

Chris Wroblewski, a senior co-captain, needs one assist this weekend to surpass former teammate Louis Dale '10 as the school's career leader in that category (470). The two enter the weekend tied. Earlier this season, the 6-0 guard became the school's 24th 1,000-point scorer and also became the first two-time Academic All-American in program history. He enters the contest averaging 11.2 points, 5.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Those numbers are even better in Ivy play (13.3 ppg., 5.3 rpg., 4.8 apg., 1.8 spg.) while shooting 41 percent from the floor and 42 percent from 3-point range.

Junior Johnathan Gray, a former walk-on, is the team's second leading scorer in conference play (12.0 ppg.) and is shooting 45 percent from the floor and 39 percent from behind the arc over his last 12 games.

Senior Drew Ferry is posting a team-high 11.3 points and ranks in the top 15 nationally in 3-pointers made per game (3.0), while Shonn Miller is scoring 9.3 ppg. and has set school freshman rebounding (6.3 rpg.) and blocked shots (1.8 bpg.). Freshman Galal Cancer is averaging 6.0 ppg., 2.6 apg., 2.5 rpg. and 1.1 spg.

ABOUT DARTMOUTH
• 2011-12 Record: 5-23 (1-11 Ivy League).
• Head Coach: Paul Cormier (New Hampshire '74), 97-141, ninth season at Dartmouth; 183-252, 16th season overall.
• Dartmouth has lost 16 of the last 18 contests and brings a 5-23 overall record into the weekend. That mark is a bit deceiving, as 15 of those losses have come by single digits.
• Freshman Gabas Maldunas leads the team in scoring (9.0 ppg.), rebounding (7.3 rpg.) and blocked shots (35). In all, six different players are averaging between 6.3 and 9.0 points.
• The Big Green is shooting 40 percent from the floor overall and 34 percent from 3-point range while allowing opponents to connect on 42 percent of their shots and 36 percent from beyond the arc.
• In his second go-round on the Dartmouth bench, Paul Cormier directed the Big Green to some of its greatest successes in the 1990s. Now, he is facing a rebuilding job with some of the top young talent in the Ancient Eight.

THE SERIES: Dartmouth leads 102-101 overall in a series that dates back to the 1900-01 campaign. Cornell has had the best of the series recently despite having its 10-game win streak in the series snapped last year. The Big Red has still captured wins in 15 of the last 17 meetings, including eight straight at Newman Arena.

LAST TIME VS. DARTMOUTH: After 10 games of near-misses on the road, the Cornell men's basketball team turned the tide with its defense and picked up its first victory away from Ithaca, knocking off Dartmouth 68-59. Cornell limited the Big Green to 35 percent shooting overall and 18 percent from 3-point range and outrebounded Dartmouth 40-35 while forcing 15 turnovers. The Big Red scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed and never let the home team tie the score in going wire-to-wire for the win. Freshman Shonn Miller had 15 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double, while Chris Wroblewski notched 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished three assists and collected three steals. Johnathan Gray was the third double figure scorer with 13 points. Dwight Tarwater notched six points and grabbed a career high nine rebounds, while Eitan Chemerinski scored eight. Dartmouth's Kirk Crecco had 15 points to lead the Big Green, while Gabas Maldunas notched 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Jvonte Brooks scored nine points and grabbed eight boards in the loss.

ABOUT HARVARD
• 2011-12 Record: 24-4 (10-2 Ivy League).
• Head Coach: Tommy Amaker (Duke '87), 90-55, fifth season at Harvard; 267-193, 15th season overall.
• Harvard is in the thick of the Ivy League race, holding a half game lead (tied in the los column) with Penn heading into the final weekend. The Quakers knocked off the Crimson in Cambridge last Saturday 55-54 in a contest that could have put the league title on ice for Harvard. The Crimson is now 3-2 in its last five contests.
• Harvard has been one of the top defensive teams in the country and has limited opponents to 40 percent shooting from the floor and 54.0 points per game.
• Offensively, the Crimson haven't been slouches either. Harvard is shooting 46 percent from the floor as a team and 35 percent from 3-point range.
• The Crimson feature two double figure scorers (Kyle Casey - 11.1 ppg. and Keith Wright - 10.6 ppg.) and four other players scoring five points per game or more. Wright, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, is also averaging 8.0 rebounds per game. As a team, the Crimson outrebound opponents by +4.6 rpg.
• Fifth-year head coach Tommy Amaker has helped the Crimson to unprecedented success, including the program's first-ever Ivy League championship in 2010-11. Harvard has made consecutive postseason tournament for the first time ever.

THE SERIES: Cornell leads the series 90-71 dating back to the first meeting between the teams in the 1901-02 season. The Big Red is 11-8 in the last 19 contests and has won five of the last nine meetings, though Harvard swept last season's contests. Cornell's last four wins in the series have come by an average of 24.8 points, though the Crimson have won three straight over the Big Red by an average of 15.0 points.

LAST TIME VS. HARVARD: No. 23 Harvard put the clamps down defensively in the first half and held on after halftime to knock off Cornell 71-60 at Lavietes Pavilion. Johnathan Gray posted 14 points as the lone double figure scorer for the Big Red, while Shonn Miller notched nine points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in just 19 minutes of action. Chris Wroblewski had nine points and three assists for Cornell. The Big Red shot just 38 percent from the floor for the game and hit on 29 percent from beyond the arc. Laurent Rivard had a game-high 16 points to lead the Crimson, while Kyle Casey scored 13. Keith Wright (nine points, seven rebounds) and Steve Moundou-Missi each recorded nine points for the balanced Crimson attack. The home team held a decisive edge at the free throw line, connecting on 29-of-34 shots from the charity stripe while Cornell made 14-of-16.

THANK YOU BIG RED SENIORS: Cornell will honor its xx seniors prior to Saturday's contest against Harvard. Guard Chris Wroblewski, a two-time Academic All-American and the 2008 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was a three-year starter and part of two Ivy championship teams, including the 2010 Sweet 16 squad. Max Groebe, a 3-point specialist, also played on that 2010 team. Fellow transfers Drew Ferry, one of the all-time leading 3-point shooters in Cornell history, and Anthony Gatlin, will also be celebrated for their contributions to the Big Red program.

TALL IVY: Over the last six seasons, Cornell's 59-23 record is the best among Ivy League teams in conference action. Penn, who claimed the 2006-07 title, is second at 48-32, followed by Yale (48-34), and 2010-11 Ivy champions Harvard (46-36) and Princeton (43-37). Rounding out the field is Columbia (35-47), Brown (31-51) and Dartmouth (17-65).

CORNELL IN OVERTIME:
• Cornell is 3-1 this season in overtime in 2011-12.
• In two seasons under head coach Bill Courtney, the Big Red is 4-1.
• All-time, dating back to the first overtime game against Penn way back in 1922, Cornell is 38-45 in games that go an extra period.
• Cornell is 5-9 in multiple overtime games.
• The longest game for the Big Red was a five overtime contest against Princeton, won by the Tigers 66-61 on Feb. 24, 1979 at Barton Hall.
• Cornell is 29-15 in home overtime games, 2-2 in neutral contests and 8-27 in road games.

THE STREAKS
• Cornell is 92-54 in the last five seasons.
• The Big Red is 50-18 in its last 68 Ivy League contests over the last five years.
• Cornell is 55-11 over its last 66 home games, including 38-9 in the last four seasons and 50-10 in the last five years.
• In non-conference games, the Big Red is 42-36 over the last five seasons.

ASSORTED NOTES:
• The Big Red needs to win one of its final two games to surpass last season's total of six Ivy Legaue wins and guarantee itself a .500 conference record for the seventh time in eight seasons. Prior to that, Cornell had just 18 seasons at .500 or better in the first 49 years of Ivy play.
• A weekend sweep would give the Big Red 13 wins, including victories over three of the top four teams in the Ivy standings (Harvard, Yale and Princeton), all at home.
• The Big Red is 9-2 at home this season and will be looking to claim double digit wins at Newman Arena for the fifth time overall and fourth time in the last five seasons (1992-93, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10). A weekend sweep would give Cornell 11 home wins, tied for the third-most in program history.
• The Big Red brings a streak of five straight Senior Day wins into its contest against Harvard on Saturday.
• Cornell has already lost 135 player games due to injury (Asafo-Adjei - 15; D.Cherry - 4; Gatlin - 26; Groebe - 6; LaMore - 3; Matthews - 26; Peck - 26; Sahota - 26; Scelfo - 3).

MILLER CHALLENGING ROOKIE RECORDS: Freshman Shonn Miller has already set a freshman record for blocked shots in a season (47, good for 10th best in school history), more than doubling the previous record of 22 by Jeffrion Aubry during the 1995-96 campaign. He also owns the school freshman rebounding record with 163, surpassing Lenny Collins' 139 in 2002-03. Miller sits 11th on the school's freshman scoring chart with his 241 points. To reach the top 10, Miller needs to score at least four points this weekend.

WROBLEWSKI NAMED THIRD TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN: Cornell senior men's basketball player Chris Wroblewski was named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wroblewski became the first-ever Big Red basketball player to earn Academic All-America honors twice in a career and was one of two Ivy League players on this year's list (Brown's Matt Sullivan - third team). One of just three repeat selections among the 15 Academic All-Americans, Wroblewski is one of just four different Cornell players to earn the top academic honor in college basketball (a total of five times). His honor makes it four in the last six seasons. Jeff Gaca (third team in 1993), Lenny Collins (third team in 2006) and Graham Dow (first team in 2007) also have made the cut.

WROBLEWSKI NEARING MILESTONES: With two games remaining in his collegiate career, senior guard Chris Wroblewski is closing in on numerous milestones. He needs just one assist this weekend to surpass former backcourt mate Louis Dale '10 as the school's all-time leader. Dale graduated with 470, which was matched by Wroblewski with his four helpers last weekend at Yale. He currently ranks 15th on the school's career scoring list with 1,137 points and needs 16 points to reach 14th and 34 points to reach 13th. His 182 career 3-pointers is good for fifth, just seven out of fourth, while his .416 percentage is also fifth-best all-time. Wroblewski also ranks among the school's career leaders in free throws made, free-throw percentage, steals, games played, games started and minutes played. His .471 3-point percentage in Ivy League play ranks among the best ever.

CORNELL HAS FIVE IVY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARDS:
Nov. 14 — Shonn Miller's first varsity appearance was enough to catch the eye of the league after a solid opening effort at St. Bonaventure. Miller connected on all three of his field goals, including a 3-pointer, and added a team-high four rebounds in Cornell's 79-58 loss to the Bonnies. He added a blocked shot and a steal.
Nov. 21 — Shonn Miller averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.7 steals in just 23.3 minutes per game in helping Cornell go 2-1. He shot 46 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free-throw line. He reached double figures in two of the three contests.
Nov. 28 — Shonn Miller averaged 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two games for the Big Red, including earning his first career starts.
Dec. 19 — Galal Cancer scored 11 points, dished seven assists, snatched five rebounds and picked up four steals in an 85-82 overtime victory over the Great Danes.
Feb. 6 — Shonn Miller averaged 12.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in two contests while shooting 56 percent from the field in a weekend split at Harvard and Dartmouth.

WROBLEWSKI NAMED IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Feb. 13): Senior Chris Wroblewski was simply dominant in a pair of wins over Yale and Brown, averaging 16.5 points, 9.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while turning the ball over just once all weekend in 76 minutes. Wroblewski shot 50 percent from the floor, 63 percent from three-point range, connected on all four free throw attempts, and even added a block. In the Big Red's 85-84 overtime win over Yale, he fell just two rebounds shy of Cornell's first-ever triple double, ending the night with 18 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals without a turnover in 42 minutes. In the final three minutes of regulation, Wroblewski hit a pair of jumpers, assisted on a huge three-point basket and had three rebounds, including an offensive tap-out that led to a possession that Cornell scored on. In overtime, Wroblewski had an offensive rebound and dished off to an open shooter for a three-pointer to make it a two-possession game, and after Yale cut the deficit to one, hit a fall-away baseline jumper over Yale's 6-10 Greg Mangano to put Cornell up 84-81 with 27 seconds to play. The following night against Brown he added 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and one turnover in the 72-63 victory. He made 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc and posted nine points and four assists in the decisive second half.

CORNELL BEYOND THE ARC — 600 AND COUNTING: The Big Red hit four 3-pointers at Yale on Feb. 25, its 653rd consecutive game with a made trey. With five 3-pointers at Seton Hall on Nov. 14, 2010, Cornell extended its streak of games with at least one 3-pointer to 600. The last time Cornell did not hit a 3-pointer was against Denison in the 1988-89 season opener (0-for-2). Since the 3-point shot came into effect in NCAA play during the 1986-87 season, Cornell has hit at least one shot behind the arc in 701 of 705 games, connecting on 4,401 treys, an average of 6.2 per game. Cornell has hit at least 10 3-pointers in a game 36 times in 87 games over the last three years, including an Ivy League single-game record 20 at Brown in 2009-10.

STATING THE STATES: Members of the Cornell basketball team represent 16 states and one Canadian province.

BIG RED CAPTAINS: Cornell's senior backcourt of Drew Ferry and Chris Wroblewski will serve as co-captains for the 2011-12 season. Wroblewski is in his second year as team captain, becoming the 13th player to serve as captain for at least two years.

NEXT UP: With the season complete, Cornell will start practicing again in October.
